2024 Election - A House Divided

Election season can be one of the most challenging times for couples who hold different political beliefs. In today’s video, we’re exploring how you can approach these differences with respect, healthy communication, and a foundation in prayer, strengthening your bond despite opposing views.

Key Points We’ll Cover:

1. Respect Each Other’s Beliefs:
It’s natural to feel strongly about issues that matter to you, but it’s equally important to recognize and respect that your partner’s views are shaped by their unique experiences and values. Instead of focusing on what divides you, focus on understanding where they’re coming from. Approach these conversations with empathy, listening fully before responding.

2. Practice Open and Compassionate Communication:
Talking about political differences can be uncomfortable, but it doesn’t have to lead to conflict. Create a safe environment where both of you feel free to share without fear of judgment or criticism. Instead of aiming to “win” the debate, aim to understand. Setting boundaries on when and how you discuss sensitive topics can also make these conversations more manageable.

3. Ground Your Relationship in Prayer and Faith:
When tension arises, take a step back to center yourselves in prayer. Invite God into your relationship to bring peace, wisdom, and unity. By praying together, you’re reminded of the bigger picture—the covenant you’ve built together. Trust that your faith can guide you through challenges and give you the grace to honor each other even in disagreement.

Remember, November 5th will come and go, but your covenant will remain. Political seasons are temporary, but the commitment you’ve made to each other is for life. Strengthen your relationship by focusing on what unites you rather than what divides you, and keep the love that brought you together at the forefront.

We say we want things to “change” but do we really? We complain about our jobs so we start applying and searching for another one. We say we don’t like the car, the house, the neighbors, etc..

If our employers would increase our pay, then it would be a better place to work and take care of our needs. If our family members, neighbors and friends would respect and nurture our values and beliefs then our relationships would be better.

Some, may not be happy with your spouse right now. There are so many things we complain about and say we want change, but we complain because we want “better.”

Seek out ways you can become a better person and you’ll find “better” is the invitation to change.
